Speculations regarding Lionel Messi’s comeback to Barcelona, which he considers his home, have been increasing in recent weeks. Even Joan Laporta, the president of Barcelona who allowed Messi to leave for PSG, has reached out to the Argentine star and assured him that “the club’s doors are open to him”.
However, during his speech at the MARCA Sport Weekend 2023, Javier Tebas emphasized that Messi cannot return to Barcelona unless he agrees to a significant salary reduction due to the club’s current economic situation. “We are not going to change the rule so that Messi can come,” Tebas clarified.
To address this issue, Barcelona is reportedly developing a plan to offer Messi an alternative financial arrangement. The proposal involves offering Messi a relatively modest salary while giving him a percentage of the revenue generated by his return, particularly at a commercial level.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the club is currently in the background, waiting for Messi to make the next move. The ball is in Messi’s court, as he is already aware of Barcelona’s interest in his return and is expected to respond accordingly.
