Frenkie de Jong was born in Arkel (The Netherlands) on May 12, 1996. The Dutchman arrived at Barça in the summer of 2019 after a great campaign with Ajax Amsterdam, already establishing himself as a present and future midfielder.
Trained in the Willem II youth academy, he debuted with the Tilburg team in the Eredivise, the Dutch first division, on May 10, 2015. In August of the same year, he signed for Ajax’s second team, Jong Ajax, but the rest were on loan until the end of 2016 at Willem II. In the summer of 2016, he began to form part of Ajax in Amsterdam, where he gradually made a place for himself in the first team until he was an undisputed player in the 2018/19 season. In the last course in the Dutch team, he was essential in the group’s successes, champions of the Eredivise and the Dutch Cup. Apart from that, De Jong and all of Ajax caused a surprise in the Champions League, playing a daring and showy game that allowed them to reach the competition’s semi-finals.
In the middle of the 2018/19 season, Barça announces his signing him. But the Dutchman lands at FC Barcelona the following year. His debut as a culé is on August 16, 2019, in San Mamés. Since this first game, the 21st has been a fixture in the Barcelona schemes.
He is also a key player in the Dutch team who reached the UEFA Nations League final and runners-up.
